Cruel Intentions (2024)

The 2024 reimagining of Cruel Intentions shifts its venomous game of desire and deception to an elite college campus, where two calculating step-siblings weave their manipulation through corridors of privilege, obsession, and control. The series aims to resurrect the bite of the ’90s classic by layering in the modern pressures of social media, performative identity, and the politics of self-image — yet the final product lands unevenly, held back by a sense of restraint it can’t quite shake off.

Sarah Catherine Hook emerges as the standout force, infusing her role with a hypnotic blend of nuance, charisma, and quiet danger that often outshines the material itself. But despite her magnetic presence, the show struggles with wavering pacing, underdeveloped arcs, and the notable absence of the razor-sharp cruelty that once made the original so iconic. The tension simmers, the seduction shimmers — but neither burns as fiercely as it should.
