Greta (2018)

Greta is a psychological thriller from director Neil Jordan that sinks slowly and relentlessly into obsession. The story follows Frances McCullen, a young woman trying to rebuild her life in New York after the loss of her mother. When she discovers a handbag on the subway and decides to return it, she meets its owner: Greta Hideg, an eccentric French piano teacher who appears gentle, lonely, and harmless.

Drawn to Greta’s kindness and still aching for maternal comfort, Frances quickly forms an unexpected bond with her — a connection that feels warm at first, but soon begins to twist. When Frances uncovers disturbing evidence that Greta’s friendliness is nothing more than a calculated façade, that initial loneliness reveals itself as something far more sinister: a dangerous, obsessive fixation.

As Frances attempts to pull away, Greta’s behavior escalates with chilling intensity, spiraling into a terrifying campaign of stalking and psychological torment. What follows is a tense, unnerving descent into a confrontation that is as claustrophobic as it is frightening.
