Pim is a dreamy boy who lives in a small coastal town in Belgium with his mother Yvette, a former beauty queen who now works as an accordionist in local bars. Pim’s life is marked by loneliness and the indifference of his mother, who spends more time seeking the company of men than caring for her son. To escape his reality, Pim takes refuge in his own dreams and fantasies, imagining a world where he is loved and understood. His only real refuge is the home of his neighbor, Marcella, and her son Gino, an older young man with whom he shares a special connection. Pim deeply admires Gino, and their friendship soon begins to transform into a more intense and romantic feeling.

As they grow up, the relationship between Pim and Gino becomes more complex. Although they share moments of intimacy and complicity, Gino doesn’t seem ready to accept his feelings in the same way Pim does. In a moment of confusion, Gino moves away and begins a relationship with a girl, Sabrina, which deeply hurts Pim. Meanwhile, Pim’s relationship with his mother remains distant; Yvette remains preoccupied with her lovers and pays no attention to her son’s emotional needs. Pim finds solace in the closeness of Marcella, who acts more like a mother to him than his own biological mother.

Pim’s world changes drastically when his mother decides to leave with her new boyfriend and leaves him behind without remorse. Without a stable home, Pim moves into Marcella’s house, where he finds a sense of family he had never experienced with Yvette. However, Gino’s presence remains a painful reminder of his unrequited love. Gino, unable to accept his own identity, is cold and distant toward Pim, which plunges him into a deep sadness. Meanwhile, Marcella and her daughter Sabrina try to offer support and comfort, but the emptiness he feels due to his mother’s absence and Gino’s rejection is difficult to fill.

Over time, Pim begins to find his own path and accept his identity without relying on Gino. He realizes that his happiness cannot be based on someone who is unwilling to fully accept him. Meanwhile, Yvette returns briefly, but her presence brings no relief or reconciliation; she remains the same selfish woman who could never give him the love he needed. Pim decides to let go of the past and seek a better life on his own. Despite the pain, he learns that independence and self-acceptance are key to his happiness.

Gino, for his part, begins to realize that he has been suppressing his own feelings. After denying his love for Pim for so long, he faces the harsh reality that he may have lost his only chance to be with him. When he finally reaches out to Pim, it is too late: Pim has learned to move on and no longer relies on Gino to feel whole. Still, their connection never completely disappears, and Gino can only mourn the lost time and happiness he let slip away out of fear and confusion.

In the final scene, Pim says goodbye to his childhood and everything that bound him to the past. The film leaves open the possibility of a future where he can find the love and stability he has always longed for. Although Pim’s story is filled with pain and disappointment, it is also a tale of growth and self-discovery. North Sea Texas is a poignant film about the first experience of love, identity, and the struggle to find one’s place in the world.
