Werwulf (2025)

Starring: Alexander Skarsgård, Anya Taylor-Joy, Mads Mikkelsen
Set against the dark and foreboding backdrop of 18th-century Prussia, Werwulf (2025) follows Elias Roth (Alexander Skarsgård), a tormented soldier returning from war, plagued by haunting rumors of a savage beast stalking his ancestral village. As the moon rises blood-red and villagers begin to disappear, Elias suspects that the terror is not just a mere superstition—there’s something far darker at play, something tied directly to his own bloodline.

With fear and paranoia gripping the community, a mysterious noblewoman named Isolde (Anya Taylor-Joy) arrives, claiming to be a scholar of ancient rites and folklore. Her deep knowledge of the occult unsettles the villagers, but she recognizes the signs of a curse older than the village itself—a pact made between man and beast in the desperate days of the past. As Elias’s nightly struggles intensify, he begins to feel the darkness inside him swelling—his senses sharpen, his rage grows, and a monstrous power stirs within.
Father Kruger (Mads Mikkelsen), the village priest and former inquisitor, believes Elias may hold the key to ending the bloodshed. But as the lines blur between man and monster, Kruger realizes that Elias may also be the very source of the curse he is desperate to eliminate. As Elias grapples with his dual nature, he must face the ultimate choice: suppress the beast within or embrace it fully, even if it means obliterating the last remnants of his humanity.

Directed by Robert Eggers, Werwulf is a chilling exploration of transformation, isolation, and the primal nature of mankind. Fusing psychological horror with folklore and raw human tragedy, the film immerses viewers in a world where faith, fear, and fate intertwine under the cold, unyielding gaze of the eternal moon.
